The Sturt’s Desert pea is a well-known Australian native flower and is the state floral emblem for South Australia. Although much admired these plants are notoriously hard to grow outside their natural desert environment and need the perfect amount of rain, wind and heat to germinate and grow in the Outback. These conditions only happen rarely and fields of flowers are a treasured sight to see.
After the Sturt desert peas start flowering the hunt is always on to try and find the rare plants which are different to the normal red flower. This is one of the many colours I have been lucky enough to find and photograph.
